SPI’s Earth / Environment site offers a rich repository of narratives told by nationally and internationally renowned scientists, entrepreneurs, naturalists, environmentalists, and wildlife researchers and preservationists.
These recordings offer educators a unique and effective way to engage students by bringing the raw materials of history, roadmaps to scientific discovery, and windows to the minds of artists and writers directly into the classroom. Our recordings engage listeners in ways that other media does not.
With audio, students must take an active role in creating their own images and structuring information. This type of active participation has been found through research to increase retention and content knowledge. With Story Preservation audio as the engagement piece, students’ attention spotlight’ is turned on and focused. Projects and lesson plans, often multi-disciplinary and designed for student-led inquiry, deepen the learning.
