Robin Van Loon
Agroforestry in the Amazon Basin
Robin Van Loon is the founding director of Camino Verde, a nonprofit organization based in Peru and the United States dedicated to restoring the Amazon’s forest landscapes by strengthening forest communities.
Robin, who is a U.S. citizen, has made the Tambopata province of the Peruvian Amazon his home since 2004. His deep understanding of traditional and indigenous agriculture and medicinal practices, coupled with his passion for the region, has driven his work over the past two decades. He has been instrumental in developing community-based reforestation strategies to regenerate endangered Amazon plants and is a respected writer, regenerative designer, and consultant in agroforestry, reforestation, and regenerative development. He is the co-author of The Amazonian Pharmacy of Don Ignacio Duri.
The first part of Robin’s story, shared with us in 2020, is available as a transcript (see below). This earlier talk serves as a companion to Robin’s 2024 audio recording and will provide listeners with a deeper understanding of his journey and Camino Verde’s reforestation efforts in the Peruvian Amazon.
