Mycologist

Merlin Sheldrake is a biologist specializing in the study of fungi and the author of the best-selling book Entangled Life. He received a Ph.D. in tropical ecology from Cambridge University for his work on underground fungal networks in tropical forests in Panama, where he was a predoctoral research fellow of the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute.

In his SPI recording, Merlin shares his fascination with - and knowledge of – “Funga,” the relatively newly named third kingdom of life that takes its rightful place alongside Flora and Fauna.

Merlin’s recording touches on only a small portion of what is now known about fungi. Students are encouraged to dig deeper into this wide-open and compelling field of study.
