The Bubble
The Bubble is an original tale of enchantment written and told by Jay O’Callahan. Jay’s spoken-word story can be found in SPI’s K-3 Learning Lab.
From Wikipedia: Most of Jay’s early stories were developed from improvised bedtime tales for his two children and are highly whimsical and showcase O’Callahan’s talent for vocal characterization (including giving personalities to inanimate objects), rhythmic verbal poetry, his gentle absurdist humor, and ability to enter into a child’s perception of the world. Notable stories of this type include The Little Dragon, Tulips, The Bubble, The Red Ball, and Orange Cheeks.”
This project was developed for young deaf and hard-of-hearing children to promote language acquisition and foster ASL proficiency as well as social and emotional learning. A giant bonus: the stories are equally valuable for hearing kids to view as a fun and imaginative introduction to ASL. They may just get hooked!
A transcription of the story is provided for teachers and parents.
All involved in the video production of The Bubble are members of the Deaf Community.
