Human Biology: Why We Age
SPI To Add Harvard Biologist David Sinclair To Its Collection
David Sinclair, Ph.D. is a professor of genetics and co-director of the Paul F. Glenn Center for Biology of Aging Research at Harvard Medical School. He also heads the Sinclair Research Group at Harvard. SRG is a recognized world leader in the understanding of why we age and, fundamental to their research, how to reverse it. SRG’s work centers on ways to increase healthspan and, ultimately, lifespan.
Dr. Sinclair has been called one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World by Time and is the author of the New York Times bestselling book, Lifespan: Why We Age – and Why We Don’t Have To.
Dr. Sinclair’s recording will offer students a unique opportunity to learn about the human body through the lens of aging. He will talk about the cellular and molecular processes that underlie aging and why aging is likely the result of a “loss of information.” Students will gain a greater understanding of the interconnectedness of the systems in the human body, the whys and wherefores of intercellular communication, and what we all can do to live a longer, stronger, and healthier life. “Our lifespan,” he states,“is only 20% genetic.”
Dr. Sinclair will share breakthrough findings made by his research team at Harvard and, relating personal experiences, he’ll reinforce the critical role that simple and unbridled curiosity plays in our quest to unravel mysteries of the unknown.
Students will come to know about:
Longevity Genes
The Effect of Biological Stress on the Human Body
The Effect of Psychological Stress on the Body
The Role of Stem Cells
The Seven Pillars of Aging - and more
Story Preservation Initiative makes its work available to all K-12 students and educators free of charge.
SPI has developed two Learning Lab projects: Our “Storytelling Learning Lab” is appropriate for students in grades Pre-K through 3, and our “Learning Lab” project is suited for students in grades 4-12, with an emphasis on grades 7-12.
Our Vision: Story Preservation Initiative believes in the transformative power of story to connect people around our common humanity and create a better future. We value generosity, diversity, inclusivity, and equity in our stories and in our outreach, exploring and illuminating the deepest levels of human potential.
Our Mission: Story Preservation Initiative is a leading producer and online distributor of original, content-rich stories for K-12 students. Our open-access stories and educational materials are used by educators around the world, engaging the hearts and minds of young people to foster curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking.
