Nyangara The Python Charlotte Blake Alston

by Charlotte Blake Alston

Nyangara the Python is a Shona tale from Zimbabwe about friendship and the courage of children.

Activities focus on developing active listening skills, visualization, drawing, and poetry.

Visualizing is essential for building reading comprehension. When young readers lose their mental picture, comprehension is lost as well. Drawing is a powerful way to help students boost the mental images conjured up when listening to a story and to retain new information. Reciting poetry helps emphasize the sound and the rhythm of language and enhances vocabulary and phonemic awareness.
