Kate Smith is a traditional weaver and fabric preservationist who has been working on her craft for over 45 years. She is a recognized master in the re-creation of historic fabrics that are woven on 200-year-old looms and dyed in much the same way that fabrics were dyed in the 18th century, using natural pigments from nature. She has been affiliated with the Marshfield School of Weaving and Eaton Hill Textile Works. Her current venture is The Weaver’s Croft, which is located in Marshfield, Vermont. In her recording, Kate talks about her life as a weaver, teacher, and historic fabric researcher.
