Douglas Finkel is a woodworker and teacher whose work is in numerous collections, including the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Georgia Museum of Art, and the Museum for Art in Wood. Doug received his master's degree from the School for American Crafts at the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York. He has taught woodworking to middle school, high school, and university students, as well as adults. His woodworking includes furniture, turning, carving, traditional green woodworking, and wooden flutes.
In his SPI recording, Doug recounts his journey from his early years of hands-on, self-taught learning, through schooling, discovery, mastery, and ultimately returning to the classroom and to makerspaces in New England as a woodworking teacher.
