SPI is in early-stage development of a science and humanities-based project titled Covid-19: Impact and Insight (CII).
CII is designed to help young people of high school age understand Covid-19 and the myriad of ways that it has – and continues to – affect people across the globe.
Original SPI narratives, as told by experts in the fields of vaccine development; medicine; psychiatry; and education, as the latter relates to critical periods of learning, will help students understand the physical, mental, and cognitive effects of Covid-19, gaining a science-based understanding and longer-view perspective of what they are now living through.
CII is a 3-stage project. SPI has received grant funding to implement stage one, which focuses on Covid-19’s physical impact.
For stage two, SPI will produce three first-person narratives and educational materials that explore how the pandemic has affected our mental wellbeing. The research is stunning; from experiencing shifts in time perception to vivid dreaming there, most importantly, has been a startling increase in anxiety, depression, and suicide. In the face of uncertainty, it is important to provide facts.
Stage three, slated for 2022, will explore the economic and environmental impact of Covid-19 and life post-pandemic.
