Christiane Andrews is the author of the middle-grade novel Spindlefish and Stars, published by Little, Brown and Company. Spindlefish received starred reviews from Booklist, Kirkus, Publisher's Weekly, and Bulletin for the Center of Children's Books. It was also named a Kirkus Best Book of 2020, a 2020 Booklist Editors' Choice, and a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection and was New Hampshire's selection for the National Book Festival's Great Reads from Great Places.
Inspired by Greek mythology, this spellbinding fantasy invites readers to seek connections, to forge their own paths, and to explore the power of storytelling in our interwoven histories.
In her SPI recording, Christiane discusses her writing process, moving from concept to developing a rough manuscript to the final book. How does a story begin? How does a writer start to map out and make sense of the various elements of plot, structure, character development, and conflict and resolution? Outlining, drafting, and editing are all discussed in the recording, as is the "business" of writing for publication, i.e., how does an aspiring author go about finding an agent or publisher, which is better and, having found a publisher, what is involved when working with an editor?
The accompanying SPI project offers actionable guidance for young people to begin the process of mapping out their own stories, all the while encouraging and celebrating original thought.
Spindlefish and Stars is Christiane's debut novel.
